Those who are exceptionally brilliant or highly trained and aspire to relocate to the United Kingdom but do not have a job offer or a sponsor can apply under this category. In the United Kingdom, those who are creative thinkers, business owners, financiers, experts in their fields, and college graduates are highly prized. Global Talent Visa, Innovator Visa, Entrepreneur Visa, and Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) are all examples of such visas.

Those from the European Economic Area (EEA), including Switzerland (from 1 January 2021) and those from outside the EEA who have been sponsored to do a skilled work for an EEA sponsor fall under the Skilled Worker visa category.

Businesses in the United Kingdom can use the Skilled Worker visa programme to hire foreign workers to fill positions that no native Brits or permanent residents are qualified to do. No qualified resident worker should lose their job because of a skilled worker visa.

The Tier 2 (General) immigration process has been replaced by the Skilled Worker visa route. While the gist of the visa criteria hasn’t changed, there have been some positive developments that could improve the system friendlier to employers and workers.

The new system makes it impossible for a qualified individual to find job with any company. They need a work offer from a legitimate sponsor that meets requirements for both their qualifications and the amount of money they’ll be making.

The options for the Skilled Worker category are more open. It makes visas available to those with a wide range of education levels, income levels, and professional expertise. To qualify as a skilled worker, a candidate needs to earn a total of 50 points (20 ‘Mandatory’ for things like sponsorship, employment, and English proficiency, and 30 ‘Tradeable’ for things like wage and other attributes). Non-points requirements include things like proof of income, proof of lack of criminal convictions, and tuberculosis tests for certain applicants.
